Emmaüs, a non-religious solidarity Movement fighting against exclusion, was created “when people decided to combine forces and take action together to help each other and come to the aid of those who were suffering” (manifesto of the Emmaus Movement, 1969). Today, close to 270 groups spread in 17 European countries are members of the Emmaus Movement.
Since its creation, Emmaüs works for and with the young people. L’Abbé Pierre, his founder, was convinced that after World War II the youth from different countries should get to know each other in order to live together peacefully. Fighting against injustice and exclusion seemed also essential for new generations of citizens.

According to it, Emmaus communities developed a summer Volunteering program. For years, they open their doors to volunteers from all over the world. From June till September, the young people are invited to commit themselves, on an unpaid basis. They take part in the activities of the community (collecting, restoring and selling donated second-hand items) or in specific projects (renovation, music festival, international solidarity, etc). This experience makes it possible to meet people from very different backgrounds. To share high solidarity moments and to discover the heart of the Emmaus Movement.
